Arranging Silence
A production may be completed not by adding a layer, but by removing the right three.
Density is not proof of musical depth. In Saye’s production, space is an active arranging element that allows the vocal to remain close, the bass to move and the piano to be remembered.
Removing a layer is not merely simplification. It changes where the listener looks, which breath remains audible and how far the chorus can expand.
The quietest section finally found its place.
